My name is Laura Norwine; I am a former special education teacher and administrator. Throughout my teaching career, I worked with diverse learners across multiple instructional settings and grade bands. I began teaching English Literature and Writing at an international school in Managua, Nicaragua, before completing my master’s degree in special education at the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2019. Upon completing my Masters in Special Education in 2019, I accepted a position as a middle school special education teacher and case manager in Columbia Public Schools, where I was trained in and implemented the Wilson Reading System. After relocating to St. Louis, I taught students in grades 4–6 with mild to moderate cross-categorical disabilities at an urban school within the Special School District. I then served as the Lower School Director and Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Ann Arbor Academy, an independent school for neurodiverse students, before beginning my PhD in Special Education at Michigan State University in 2023 as a Project FUTURE fellow. As of May 2026, I am all but dissertation with an expected graduation date of 2027.
On the more personal side...my husband and I live in the metro-Detroit area, and we are soon-to-be puppy parents. Our little bundle of chaos will be coming home in January 2027; check back for pics. When I am not writing, I am likely watching reality TV. My reality of choice is Housewives - of which I consider myself to be a savant. Seriously. I was watching Real Housewives back when they wrote blog posts after each episode - yikes!
